I earned my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2005 with a primary focus in clinical social work and am a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW). I also have a MA and a BA in English.
I have been working in the counselling field for more than 15 years. My experience includes individual, group, couples and family psychotherapy with adults for a variety of issues including substance use, depression, anxiety, chronic illness (HIV, cancer) trauma, loss/ grief, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships issues. My past work has also included the clinical supervision of graduate level students and facilitating trainings for service providers regarding clinical work in mental health and addiction treatment.
I have always been interested in and curious about the how individuals understand and make meaning of their experiences. My primary practice modality is drawn from a relational psychodynamic perspective and I am attentive to how our experiences are also shaped by our social location. I also have training in alternate approaches including trauma counselling, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT- Levels 1 and 2),
Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT- Levels 1 and 2, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and draw on these skill sets as needed and as the primary issue may call for.
