I earned my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2005 with a primary focus in clinical social work and am a member of the College of Social Workers of Ontario. I also have a MA and a BA in English.
Since completing my MSW, I have continued my professional development by regularly attending clinical workshops and conferences. In the past 5 years, I have completed training courses in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (Level 1 and 2), counselling clients with PTSD, and an Intensive Sex Therapy certificate through the University of Guelph. I am currently in the process of completing a 2 year Advanced Training Program for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ATPPP) with the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society & Institute.
I have been working in the counselling field for 10 years. Currently, I work as a therapist in a teaching hospital and see individuals diagnosed with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. My experience includes individual, group, couples and family psychotherapy with adults for a variety of issues including substance use, depression, anxiety, chronic illness (HIV, cancer) trauma, loss/ grief, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships issues. My work also includes the clinical supervision of graduate level students and facilitating trainings for service providers regarding clinical work in mental health and addition treatment.
I have always been interested in and curious about the how individuals understand and make meaning of their experiences. My primary practice modality is drawn from a relational psychodynamic perspective and I am attentive to how our experiences are also shaped by our social location. I also have training in alternate approaches including trauma counselling, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and draw on these skill sets as needed and as the primary issue may call for.
